Ontario Real Estate Just Hit a 25-Year Low — What’s Going On?
Welcome to Ontario Real Estate: The Week in 15, presented by Metro Commercial Team.
We’re starting with a number that should get the attention of anyone involved in Ontario real estate.
13,620.
That’s how many residential properties sold across Ontario in August 2026 — the lowest August sales total in 25 years.
Sales were down 6% compared with August 2025.
But here’s the interesting part.
This isn’t simply a story about falling prices.
Ontario’s benchmark price was approximately $745,400, down 3.6% year over year.
Meanwhile, Ontario had 5.2 months of inventory, significantly above the long-term average of 3.1 months for August.
So buyers have more choice.
Sellers have more competition.
And properties need to be positioned correctly.
But real estate is local.
A condo in downtown Toronto, an industrial building in Vaughan and a retail plaza in Barrie are three completely different markets.
That’s exactly why we’re launching this podcast.
Every episode, Metro Commercial Team will break down what’s happening in Ontario — and we’ll go across Canada whenever a national story could affect Ontario investors, owners or businesses.
Metro Commercial Team — Ontario first. Canada when it matters.
